Data sources

Where the data comes from

Where BrickDb's facts about LEGO® sets, minifigures and parts come from, and where its prices come from.

Licensed interfaces and published product feeds — never a crawl. A survey of every candidate price source found each one closed to us by its robots.txt, by its terms, or by both, and that result was accepted rather than worked around. What BrickDb reads instead is Rebrickable's published catalogue, BrickLink's price-guide interface, Brickset's interface for recommended retail prices, eBay's Browse interface, and the product feeds of affiliate programmes it has been approved for.

Catalogue data from Rebrickable.

Pricing data from BrickLink.

The sources, by name

  • Rebrickable – Set, part, minifigure and colour data comes from Rebrickable, used under their terms of service. Attribution is requested rather than required; we give it anyway.
  • BrickLink – Price and marketplace data comes from BrickLink, used under their API terms of use and never held longer than those terms permit.
  • Brickset – LEGO's recommended retail prices and product facts about sets come from Brickset, through its API. Brickset does not ask for attribution; we give it anyway.
  • Rakuten Advertising – Retail prices from LEGO's own online shops, read from the product feeds of LEGO's affiliate programme in the Rakuten Advertising network. The enabled sources: LEGO® Shop (US), LEGO® Shop (FR). A link to the shop is paid for and labelled as advertising.
  • Awin – Shop prices from the product feeds of merchants that have approved BrickDb in the Awin affiliate network. A link to such a shop is paid for and labelled as advertising. The enabled sources: Hamleys, The Entertainer, Proshop, LEGO® Shop (BR), idee+spiel, Spielemax, Thalia.
  • Tradedoubler – Shop prices for LEGO® sets from the product feeds of merchants that have accepted BrickDb in the Tradedoubler affiliate network – books, e-books and other media in those feeds are recognised by their ISBN and never shown as a set's price. The enabled sources: Hugendubel. A link to the shop is paid for and labelled as advertising.
  • eBay – Asking prices of current listings, read through eBay's Browse interface for a fixed list of eBay marketplaces. The enabled sources: eBay United States, eBay United Kingdom, eBay Germany, eBay Australia, eBay Canada, eBay France, eBay Italy, eBay Spain.
  • LEGO release dates, worldwide retail prices and Polish aftermarket prices – Committed to the repository and credited on the attributions page. Licence: CC BY 4.0.
  • LEGO sets (mterzolo) – Committed to the repository and credited on the attributions page. Licence: CC0 1.0.
  • LEGO sets and price 1955–2023 (alessiasimone) – Committed to the repository and credited on the attributions page, kept for reference and not read: nothing BrickDb shows comes from it. Licence: CC0 1.0.

iDisplayit – display cases made to fit a set, from its product feed in the Awin network. They are offered on the set page and labelled as advertising; the feed is never read as a price.

The images, fonts, scripts and models BrickDb ships, and the open data behind the scanner's code table, are credited with their licences on the attributions page.
