A small change to the shape of a part over the years, such as a different underside or a reinforced clip.
Moulds are revised over time, so the same part can exist in several slightly different forms. Catalogues tell these variants apart with letters after the part number. To most builders they are interchangeable; to somebody restoring an old set to its original state they matter.
